CryoCaddy is a new apparatus and technique for preparing tissue for frozen sectioning. It can be used to either chuck mount or embed specimen(s), and provides distinct advantages over traditional cryostat chamber freezing.
With this technique tissue orientation takes place at the dissecting bench, at room temperature, in the virtual absence of tissue freezing gel. Once oriented the tissue and chuck are super-cooled with a bench top freezing platform (CryoBlock). In hospitals only doing the occasional frozen section the CryoBlock can be retrieved from a -70C freezer, or dry ice storage container and used as is. In hospitals doing multiple frozen sections throughout the day the CryoBlock is best maintained at -78C with dry ice.
Our custom Chucks and Molds have a numbering surface so the tissue and it’s tracking information is never separated, reducing the chance of a mix up.
The technique is faster, cleaner and more accurate then cryostat chamber freezing.
